Things to do and places to visit during your stay
La Roulais is located in the tranquil countryside, surrounded by private parkland leading to quiet country lanes which are ideal for walking and cycling. Whatever your interests may be, young or old, there are plenty of things to do and places to visit in the area
We are equidistant between the 3 major cities of Nantes, Rennes and Angers (all within 1 hour) and each offers something different in French culture - all are worth a visit
The local village of Soudan is 6km away and has everything for every day needs: several bars, 2 boulangeries (bakeries) and a general store selling a bit of everything including fresh meat and veg
Chateaubriant (10kms) is the local town, famous for its' steak and boasting its own magnificent chateau, a selection of restaurants, 2 huge hypermarkets and lots of chic shops - it hosts a large market every Wednesday morning
Also in Chateaubriant: mini golf, tennis courts, 10 pin bowling, horse riding, a cinema, a theatre, a French resistance museum and opening Summer 2016 a leisure centre with swimming pool and wellness centre. There is also a 'green route' along an old railway line specially designated for cycling
Fishing: There are plenty of lakes in the surrounding area and fishing permits can be bought for daily/weekly fishing in local bars
Golf: There are 16 couses in the Pays de La Loire region and we are happy to phone them for Tee off times for guests. The nearest course is at Treffieux (20 mins)
Motor car enthusiasts: We are able to offer undercover parking for anyone wishing to come on holiday in their classic car - we appreciate how important they are to you!
We are only 1h 30mins from Le Mans and the roads in France are perfect for enjoying the driving
Loheac is the largest automobile museum in Europe and is only 30mins away
Wine tasting: We are within 30 mins of a wine route along the banks of the Loire, where you can call at the vineyards for a tasting before you decide to buy!
The coast: If you fancy a day at the beach La Baule and Pornic are well worth a visit (1 hr). La Baule has 9kms of sandy beach and seafood restaurants line the promenade. The walled town of Guerande is nearby and famous for the production of salt
The safari park Planete Sauvage (1hr) is a great day out for the family, with plenty of different animals and an interesting breeding programme for endangered species
Les Naudieres is a fun park (45mins) which children and adults alike can enjoy. Due to the climate these outside parks are a very popular day out in the Summer
A bit further afield (2hrs) why not plan a day out in Saumur with a visit to the famous Cadre Noir, or a trip to see the Puy de Fou?
There is so much to see it is hard to list everything here, but we are happy to suggest options and recommend places to visit. We also have a lot of literature and a selection of maps for guests to use
